国立劇場
国立劇場は、1959年にシンガポールが完全な内部自治権を獲得したことを記念して建設されました。建設資金の一部は、あらゆる階層のシンガポール国民からの寄付によって賄われたため、「人民劇場」としても知られていました。完全な屋外劇場は、シンガポール国旗の五つの星と三日月を象徴すると言われる五角形のファサードと噴水、そして巨大な片持ち屋根を特徴としていました。1963年8月8日、第1回東南アジア文化祭の開会式とともに開館しました。その後、シンガポールの発展途上の芸術シーンにとって重要な文化施設として機能しました。1986年に解体されました。

NATIONAL THEATRE
The National Theatre was built to commemorate Singapore’s attainment of full internal self-government status in 1959. As its construction was partly funded by Singaporeans from all walks of life through donation drives, it was also known as the “People’s Theatre". The fully open-air theatre featured a five point facade and fountain, which was described as symbolising the five stars and crescent moon of the Singapore flag, and a huge cantilevered roof. The theatre opened on 8 August 1963, with the opening ceremony of the first Southeast Asian Cultural Festival. It went on to serve as an important cultural venue for Singapore’s growing arts scene. The theatre was demolished in 1986.
